Diary - Mae, C. *

Diary,

Today was just another day, wasn't no good or bad. Just another day gone by..
I don' like these Okies comin' into town takin' up all the space and what not. Takin' my damn food, and jobs, and money. That's the thing though, as much as i hate those Okies, they be supplying money for me and my folk. See that is the most important thing in this dear life of mine, money. That's like life or death cos if you aint got no money you gon' die sooner or later, but if you done got money then you'll be fine. I got to say though, i like doing good for those ever since i got that two half dollars from those people. I give and give and that feels most best, i get back sometimes too and that feels great as well. Damn them Okies, but bless them too.

The Impact of a Quote, D. *

"Drove like he's blin' drunk. Jesus, the air was full of bed clothes an' chickens an' kids." (158)

This quote has impacted me in the way i see other people and in the way i see myself. We can intertwine this quote to that of the Corinthians 15:34
"Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go sinning on. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to you shame."
The connection to the Corinthians 15:34 and the quote of The Grapes of Wrath is that people are blind to that of what is around them and to what they do not understand. In my own personal life i have met people who in cases are blind to what they do not know or understand. It could be cases of race when one would put down the other because they are afraid of who they are or what people associate them to be. At times i see myself as blind to what i do not know or cannot perceive, it's a matter of what i do in order to become one with that of the unknown. And that is how this quote has affected me.

Developing Conflicts, G.

Developing conflicts in the book such as man v. society are seen in chapter 7 and 8. Every man is really for himself because when you are trying to sell as the car dealers were trying to sell, you have to do all you can to try to sell and get money.

"Salesmen, neat, deadly, small intent eyes watching for weaknesses." (61)
The salesmen are literally watching their prey because all they want is money and they don't care how they get it as long as they get it.
"Squirt in a couple quarts of sawdust. Put some in the gears, too." (62)
As i said earlier they do not care at all what they give them as long as they are getting money. They do not even care whether the car is in mint condition or if it's in bad condition. They will do anything to get that money. Squirting sawdust quiets what ever you put it in so it sounds like a beautiful baby when really its been dropped on the head a few times.

Automobiles In The 30s, D. Chapters 1-10

Autos in the 1930s:
  • DeSoto
  • Plymouth
  • Ford
  • Buick
  • LaSalle
  • Oldsmobile
  • Chevrolet
  • Marquette
These few of many car industries produced a lot of the cars we see today. Ford and Chevy's, the ones we recognize the most were the first of many types of cars that became most famous for its looks and is why we still see them around today.
Ford:Ford cars in 1930s were very popular considering the type of vehicle it was and the look it had.
Chevy:Chevy vehicles were also very popular for its reduced glare windshields and the hood not there.
Oldsmobile:The oldsmobile came out during the 30s and during economic pain and was different from many other makes because of its unique style.

Chapter 5, C.

To the love of my life, land.
Land, you are graceful with your beautiful soil. Although what

cotton has done to you, you are so very beautiful,

I wish i could have stood up for you when the

"Owners of the land came onto the land"(31)

They were never the owners, it was ours

They kicked us off you, you were once so graceful.

We ruined you

"We're sorry. It's not us. It's the monster"(33).

No-one knew you as i did, not the monster or anyone!

"He could not see the land as it was, he could not smell the

land as it smelled; his feet did not stamp the clods or feel the

warmth and powder of the earth"(35).

I will always miss you land,

My heart will always belong to you.
